The Senator was responding to an order by DPP Keriako Tobiko who directed police to arrest and probe Sonko over the remarks.

“My remarks, sentiments which I made, that I am number three in command socially, politically and influence-wise. I never mentioned anything to do with our constitution,” he explains.

In a status update on Facebook, the Senator accuses the DPP of incompetence, saying he used an edited clip aimed at tarnishing his name based on his political inclination.

“I am saddened by the fact that Keriako was reacting to his declaration which was propelled by dubious claims which his office ought to have thoroughly investigated. It’s a shame that the DPP would be influenced to act on such claims. It’s an act of incompetency.”

The DPP in his letter to the police cited a clip where Sonko is caught saying: “Rais Uhuru is in Togo, Deputy President William Ruto is in France. I am number three in command politically influence-wise and socially… I am now the acting president of the republic of Kenya.”

Sonko made the remarks Friday during the funeral of former Kathiani MP, Wavinya Ndeti’s husband.

His remarks angered Kenyans, with city lawyer Ahmednasir accusing him of committing treason.

The Senator has pledged to release the original clip for the purposes of national transparency.
